NRA Announces eToll Payment System
15/06/2007
The National Roads Authority is introducing a customer friendly toll payment system that will commence operation nationwide starting tomorrow, Friday, June 15th 2007. One electronic tag is all drivers will need from now on when using any tolling facility throughout Ireland.
Drivers who currently have more then one tag can decide for themselves which operator best suits their individual needs. Drivers can compare different operator offerings by visiting www.nra.ie for information on the different tolling service companies throughout the country.
Background Information:
- (ETC) Electronic Toll Collection means drivers do not have to exchange money at toll plazas or place money into collection baskets. Drivers with an electronic tag can use any lane at a toll plaza and travel unimpeded once the overhead scanner has read the electronic tag.
- All lanes at all toll plaza will accept electronic tags.
- The following plazas Kilcock-Kinnegad (M4), Rathcormac-Fermoy (M8), and Westlink (M50), Dublin Port Tunnel, Drogheda (M1) all have exclusive ETC lanes for use only by electronic tag customers.
- Based on the pilot programme we are expecting an approximate 98% success rate, but there will be difficulty if a tag is faulty or its placement within a car is incorrect. If there is any difficulty with your electronic tag please contact your tag issuer.
- Drivers with more then one tag need to be aware that only one tag will be read through a random selection process. Therefore it is advised that drivers choose a preferred tag and it is placed properly within their car.
